Killzone 2 // Review

Title: ‘Killzone 2’
Rating: M (US) / MA15+ (AUS)

Platform(s): Playstation 3

Killzone 2 has been named the Halo of Playstation and to tell you the truth I will have to say it defiantly is. Even though it doesn’t completely follow up from the original it still has its amazing storyline. Emperor Visari, The leader of the Helgast has rallied his troops in the attempt to claim back their planet Helgan. The aim for you who is playing Sev, is to work in your squad of 4 to prevent the Helgast invasion and capture Visari. This journey isn’t an easy one with the Intelligent AI using tactics to ambush you or kill you using an explosive barrel that your standing near. Also as we all know nothing ever goes to plan.

The effects on the Game are Stunning and really give you the feeling of the war and how evil the place is. They have even worked on the blood effects on Killzone 2 with blobby blood instead of the average 2D splats that used to spray out of your enemies. I can tell you when you blow off someone’s head with a shotgun or sniper rifle it sure does sound SWEET and it is really enjoyable. Yes it sounds sick that I just said that but believe me when you play this game you will love doing it as much as me. When it comes to weapons this game sure has put some thought into it. They are all great fun to use and cause great damage. Even the shooting of them is fun by itself…. with the exception of the Flamethrower; it’s just a water pistol that shoots fire instead of water. That’s right it shoots a line of fire. Well we will just pretend the Flamethrower wasn’t ever made on Killzone. One part that stood out mainly for me would have to be the vehicle missions, which unfortunately were a bit short. The tanks are AWESOME. Either shoot people with your Heavy Machine gun that just rips the Helgast apart or shoot rockets at them to make them fly. Then the best vehicle would have to be the Exoskeleton as it is a walking death machine. You can waste your enemies with the lovely rockets, shred them up with the machine gun or even STOMP on them. Killzone has also implemented the first-person cover system. Where you can take cover just like in Gears of War and then pop out and shoot the Helgast down. The great thing about it was the fact that it stayed in first-person so it was much more realistic.

Once again Killzone didn’t create that good of an online experience. There is only one main game mode but you can choose to do only specific sections of it. With Search and Destroy, Body count, Assassination, Cap ‘n’ Hold and Search and Retrieve. The ranking system on this is really well created as you can unlock, weapons and abilities as you work your way through the ranks. There is also achievements/ribbons to get as you go through which can give you additional ammo, grenades, new pistol etc. Another great thing added to the online was more an Internet thing, Where you can upload your stats from online game play or from the Campaign. Doing so can get you into clans, friends who want to add you because your good or even rewards (Remember those pointless Intel cases from the story? They give you Rewards.)

Pro’s

·         The graphics are fantastic

·         The AI was well made

·         Connection between game and site was creative

·         The guns were awesome, with the exception of the Flamethrower

·         Game play and storyline were gripping

·         Sound effects really added an extra feel to game

·         Vehicle missions were intense

·         Covering system works well

Con’s

·         Online was slightly disappointing

·         The vehicle missions were a bit short

·         Rico (You’ll see why)

·         Flamethrower

Length of game play was a bit short (roughly 8-10 hrs)

I give this game 4 out of 5 stars!

Review // The Godfather II

Title: ‘The Godfather II’
Rating: M (US) / MA15+ (AUS)
Developer: EA Redwood Shores
Publisher: Electronic Arts
Platform: PC, Xbox 360 & PS3

Wow, I never would of thought that EA would have made a game better than the games they make. EA normally make games which are all the same, but The Godfather II takes Electronic Arts (EA) to a whole new level!

The Godfather II is an awesome game, a really Must Buy! You start the game off being at a retirement party in Cuba, but before that, you customize your character. For the purposes of the script, you characters name is Dominic Corleone. Things go wrong in a hurry, riots occur and rebels try and kill you and the Corleone family.

You must battle your way through to the airport. When you get to the airport, a rebel has a view on the Don who scouts on ahead. He is later shot. The don’s name is Aldo. Your guys quickly make a dash for the plane. Michael asks for you (Dominic) to be Don. You accept this, and the storyline begins here.

You have to take over rackets against rival mafia famillies, and then push your way out of New York down to Miami, FL and then to Cuba. There are five famillies you must take over: Carmine Rosato, Tony Rosato, The Granados, The Manganos and The Almeida’s. You must take over all the business’ that the family you’re going to take over before you can take over their compound.

Pro’s - Storyline which leaves you on the edge of your seat.
- A game which is better than Saints Row II.

Con’s - Extorting business’ gets boring very quickly.
- Cities are too small. New York is about the size of Cuba.

I strongly recommend you get this game! I rate it 5 out of 5.
